Igbo spoke Ìgbo language. Ìgbo is
one of the several languages spoken in Africa. The Igbo speak their language in
tones. This meaning that each word has a different tone. One word may have four different meanings, so using the right tone or pitch is important. The two main tones are high and low tone. High tone uses the tongue on the roof of the mouth and low tone uses the tongue flat. The Ìgbo language consisted of a writing called Nsibidi. Nsibidi is based on signs and symbols adopted from the Ibibios. This form of writing can be found on scripts, tombstones, costumes, and etc. The writing became deceased when secret societies eliminated the language from the public.

Masquerades & Festivals (Art):
Masquerades
were in celebration of the human and spirit worlds. Masquerades were known to
symbolize peace among the diverse Igbo villages. Craftsmen dashed to create fine
robes, masks, and costumes for the masquerades. The masks interpreted the Igbo’s dead relatives, while vibrant
colours inferred joyful celebration. Men and women bedecked
themselves head to toe in colourful attire dancing to the many instrunments such
as trumpets and drums. Drums played a huge role in Igbo culture. The drum was
diversered and allowed the Igbo to create different pitches of the drum. The
drum was used during weddings, celebrations, funerals, and more events.
